Mercator, the IT arm of the UAE's Emirates Group, said the implementation would reduce revenue accounting costs, maximise productivity and enhance commercial confidence and competitiveness.

The implementation is expected to start "shortly" and will likely take between nine months to a year to complete.

"We have seen for ourselves the results that these Rapid implementations bring, and our airline will also soon be realising the benefits. The Mercator team has our complete confidence, and we look forward to building a strategic relationship between our two companies," commented Ali Saleh, Libyan Arab Airlines financial director.

The agreement, announced this week, makes Libya's national airline the fiftieth aviation business to opt for the system.

Other Rapid customers include Middle East Airlines (MEA), Gulf Air, British Airways, Emirates and Malaysia Airlines.

"We welcome Libyan Arab Airlines into the Mercator family and look forward to providing them with the high quality solutions and expertise for which we have become known," Patrick Naef, head of Mercator, commented.
