Leading notebook computer vendor Toshiba previewed the first notebook PC equipped with a HD DVD-R optical drive capable of burning HD DVDs at CES 2007.

With the addition of the HD DVD-R optical drive, the Qosmio notebook can burn up to 30GB of data, including video or entire photo and music libraries, onto a single HD DVD recordable disc. Toshiba claims the HD DVD-R optical drive also plays HD DVD movies at a resolution six times sharper than traditional DVDs.

Leveraging the capabilities of its Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate operating system, the notebook includes a high definition television (HDTV) tuner and digital video recorder, which serves to transform the Qosmio's multimedia capabilities.

"The new Qosmio will not only will play high-definition video, but provide users with the power to create and burn custom HD DVDs with as much as 30GB of information," said Jeff Barney, VP of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America.

The new Qosmio notebook is set for launch in the Middle East in the second quarter of this year.
