CM services related to SOA are becoming "increasingly critical" to businesses, according to a report.

Research by IDC shows companies are realising that implementing SOA (service-oriented architecture) can have a significant impact on staff and the organisation of an enterprise because of the new skills and responsibilities that need to be introduced.

The report, released last week, states that companies are increasingly turning to CM (change management) to help smooth the transition to SOA, and the analyst firm said it expects this trend to continue in the coming years.

"Although this market is relatively nascent today, it [CM] is expected to become an important opportunity for service vendors in the next couple of years," said Marianne Hedin, IDC programme manager for worldwide services research.

IDC said most CM growth was occurring in the large enterprise sector, which has been an early adopter of SOA.
