Brocade continued its buying spree last week with the acquisition of network processor maker Silverback Systems for an undisclosed sum.

Silverback develops processors that help to accelerate the speed and performance of data traffic in network storage environments.

"Silverback's technology and expertise in iSCSI environments will help us to deliver a new set of cost-effective products that broaden the Brocade product portfolio and provide even more options and capabilities to our customers," said Dan Crain, chief technology officer at Brocade.

The deal is expected to become a key part of Brocade's product roadmap as the adoption of technologies such as internet protocol (IP) storage and 10-Gbit ethernet increase around the world.
