Basel Tutunji, SAS Institute regional manager, confirmed to IT Weekly yesterday (Wednesday) that there would be job cuts as a result of the closure, but said exact numbers were still being finalised.

Earlier reports suggested as many as 300 positions could be affected.

Tutunji claimed the region could benefit from the shake-up as some staff from the EMEA HQ would likely be redeployed to the Middle East.

Following the closure in March, all regional offices will report directly to SAS's global HQ in North Carolina, US.
