The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), is bringing 19 of the best startups from Japan to participate in GITEX Future Stars.

Among the sectors represented at the Japanese pavilion will be artificial intelligence (A.I.), aerospace, Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, fintech, and hospitality which together, will provide industry and business audiences with a unique glimpse into the future of space exploration, science, industry, work and personal life.

JETRO is a Japanese government agency that facilitates and fosters business between Japan and the rest of the world. JETRO's presence at GITEX 2018 builds upon a successful 2017 showing that featured seven start-ups and follows the April 2018 signing of a Joint Statement on Deepening and Strengthening Strategic Partnerships by Japan and the United Arab Emirates. The statement signed by the two countries highlighted sectors that include advanced technology, robotic, IoT, big data analysis, AI and space activities, sectors that will feature prominently at the show's Japanese pavilion.

The program also marks the second year that Middle East technology and e-commerce entrepreneur, Paul Kenny, has led the participating startups through an intensive mentorship program. The initiative focuses on Middle East growth strategies for the start-ups across the technology space in advance of GITEX Future Stars and provides insights into the region's start-up and investment communities.

According to Mr. Masami Ando, Managing Director of JETRO Dubai and MENA: "Ties between Japan and the region and in particular, the UAE continue to strengthen across culture, technology and business and it is within this context that we have selected 19 start-ups - representing some of Japan's best and brightest - to showcase at this year's GITEX Future Stars.  Not only do these start-ups represent the future of Japanese technology and industry, they also have real potential to contribute to the economic growth and diversification of the Middle East and Africa region."

Of 19 start-ups showcased at the Japanese Pavilion, four have been selected under J-Startup, a program launched in June 2018 by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Technology and Industry with a mission to foster and grow Japan's start-up sector. Selected through the recommendation of experts, the startups receive intensive support measures from a number of private and public organizations.

Under the program, Dubai has been selected as a Global Acceleration Hub meaning that JETRO's Dubai office will support Japanese start-ups with extensive access to regional professional networks and opportunities such as GITEX Future Stars in hopes of fuelling expansion to the region. Start-ups on the Japanese pavilion will have the chance to meet the more than 1,500 investors and corporate buyers expected at the show. A select group of entrepreneurs will also join JETRO in sharing insights into the Japanese start-up ecosystem and their particular sectors on October 14th at 14:45 as part of GITEX Future Stars' official agenda of speakers.

"The calibre of start-ups coming to GITEX Future Stars from Japan is outstanding this year. Following the inaugural mentorship program that JETRO implemented last year, the 2018 program has expanded, and with Dubai selected as an official Global Acceleration Hub, we are able to powerfully showcase these innovative, striking start-ups to the Middle East's investor community and provide support to the entrepreneurs in how their  businesses can bring value and add to their respective sectors across the Middle East," commented Paul Kenny, Managing Director at AYM Commerce.
