Networking solutions vendor, TP-Link is the parent company of Neffos its mobile devices brand that was launched in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) market in 2016.

Since the launch, the Neffos brand has been known by retailers and consumers alike for its sleek designs of smartphones be it the C or X series.

Earlier this year, the vendor launched its Neffos C7 smartphone a beautifully crafted device packed in a sleek polycarbonate unibody. With only 5.95mm visual thickness, and a sophisticated CNC finish, the Neffos C7 slimness makes it beautiful. The curvature of the smartphone adjusts hundreds of times, providing a fantastic grip that fits comfortably in a user's hand. The handset is finished in a nanoscopic silver paste to give a cool, metallic feel in both sunrise gold and cloudy grey.

In addition, the latest handset comes with the average specs that will work for every consumer that wants a functional device that's priced for budget conscious users.

As an entry level handset in the C series, it boasts 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and 3060mAh battery. The rear fingerprint scanner is present at the usual position like the Neffos X1 with the Neffos inscription underneath.

The rear camera is at the top left with the dual-LED flash right underneath. Turning to the sides where the volume keys and power button are, it measures just 7.0 mm slim. The C7 is a slim and tiny device, weighing 157 grams. The smartphone comes in gold and grey, which might be a downer to some consumers.

Turning over to the screen, the Neffos inscription like in the X1 model is at the top bezel with the bottom housing three navigation buttons. With no narrow bezels, the 5.5-inch HD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen dishes out a much taller display in landscape mode. It boasts of a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, 267 pixel per inch density, 450 cd/m2 and 1500:1 contrast ratio. Protecting the multi-touch screen is a 2.5D curved glass, while the screen got to 70.58% screen to body ratio.

Hardware and OS

Powered by the MediaTek MT6750 chip with an Octa-core processor, the handsets processor reaches a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, has a 64-bit CPU architecture and 28nm process technology. The graphics processing unit is an ARM Mali-T860 MP2 graphics processor with 2-Cores and reaches a speed of 520MHz.

For smooth multitasking and fast application launching, there's 2GB of RAM with a memory speed of 667MHz. The C7 is able to store up files, photos and movies in the 16GB storage space available. If that isn't enough, users can upgrade up to 128GB. It has no separate memory card slot, so one has to use the SIM slot 2 if they require more storage capacity. The Neffos C7 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with Neffos UI 7.0.

The 13MP rear camera, f/2.0 aperture and 0.2s PDAF bring clearer, brighter and more detailed photos. Multiple photo modes can be customised for photography enthusiast to achieve the right shot in any situation or conditions.

Equipped with a 3060mAh battery, which maintains more than 90% of the battery capacity after 500 full charges, the Neffos C7 perfectly balances between capacity and durability. The handset works well in extreme conditions from -20 to 60° Celsius and is particularly ideal in the Middle East where temperatures in the summer months do touch 50° Celsius. Additionally, its smart power saving mode keeps battery life even longer.

Verdict

And while there are many vendors in the Middle East with handsets in the same price range and specs as TP-Link's Neffos C7, this handset is ideal for the budget conscious consumer who is looking to have a premium device experience without breaking their pocket to enjoy that. The C7 is not only a "value for money" handset, but is inexpensive yet has features that one can only be found in high-end smartphones. At the price point the C7 is retailing as it competes with Samsung's J series and Huawei's Y series, anyone thinking of buying or upgrading their current mobile phone should consider this device.

The C7 is currently available at power retailers Jacky's Electronics and E-City, and through independent retailers for just under AED500.
