DubaiStore, a local online marketplace focused on SMEs and home-based businesses (e-traders), is set for launch in the third quarter this year.

DubaiStore is an initiative of Digital Economy Solutions (DES), a joint venture between emaratech and the Department of Economic Development of Dubai (DED).

Presenting the DubaiStores model to the public at the Seamless exhibition in Dubai, Abdallah Hassan Ahmed Hassan, CEO of DES, said: “DubaiStore aims to support the economic growth of Dubai by encouraging e-commerce as an efficient trading channel, governed by Dubai’s laws and regulations. It is a government initiative under the operational control of DES.”

The site doesn’t plan to sell any products on its own thereby ensuring no direct competition between it and the sellers on the platform. The online store will also host licensed home businesses (e-traders), giving consumers access to a range of products they may not find in the retail market.

eTraders will be enrolled without registration or commission charges, with the aim of supporting the local business sector. Each trader will have a dedicated e-store within the marketplace.
