Nintendo has officially confirmed that it plans to release the first version of Mario Kart for smartphones.

The Mario Kart Tour app is said to launch in the next financial year, this would mean between April 2018 and March 2019. Nintendo has not released any detailed information about the game, apart from the official game logo.

The news come after Nintendo revealed that 14.86 million Switch consoles have been sold, as well as half as many copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The company also disclosed that the paid Switch Online service will launch in September 2018, which could possibly indicate that Nintendo will also release a game during this period.

Furthermore, Nintendo is working on an animated, feature length Super Mario film, which is rumoured to be in production with Illumination Studios, the makers of Despicable Me.

2018 appears to be busy year for Nintendo!
