Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) has held a workshop to help government departments to utilise data and services generated from the new Spatial and Aerial Imagery initiative.

The two-day workshop raised awareness about remote sensing methodologies and new technologies available in the Abu Dhabi spatial data community and to inform the participating government bodies of the role that Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) program can play in supporting their various operations and requirements through the consolidation of geographic data.

A number of leading local and international companies, as well as universities, such as Digital Globe, Proteus, Deimos, SkyStans, Bayanat, Emirates University and Khalifa University, took part in the workshop and gave detailed presentations on various aspects of aerial and spatial photography.

Nadia Al Thaibani, Spatial and Aerial Imagery initiative project manager at ADSIC, said: "The workshop provided us with the opportunity to further educate and raise awareness about the Spatial and Aerial Imagery initiative, the remote sensing methodologies available and the state-of-the-art technology developed by ADSIC. It also gave us the opportunity to highlight the latest developments related to the initiative including our 2018 plan in addition to highlighting the new portal for applications and job submissions that will be made available to members to benefit from in the near future.

"The Spatial and Aerial Imagery initiative is part of the Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure (AD-SDI) Programme which holds a key role in supporting both Abu Dhabi's Digital Government and people by providing the latest geographical information and efficient, reliable and easy to reach spatially enabled digital solutions. The initiative is also part and parcel of Abu Dhabi's digital transformation journey and Whole of Government project that enables government entities in the Emirate to provide second to none solutions and enhanced quality government services."

The AD-SDI Program was launched within the framework of Abu Dhabi's digital transformation journey in 2007 to provide Abu Dhabi's government and people with efficient modern, flexible and dynamic geospatial data. Since then, the program has grown in prominence by improving services and providing innovative reliable solutions and has witnessed significant growth from 8 entities to 76 in 2017. The program also plays a key role in improving operational and practical features of government entities through several areas such as situation analysis and influence, business decisions, emergency response, transportation security and safety, assessing demographic trends and community planning, resource management and others.
