Cherpa, the online platform that teaches robotics to children in a fun and interactive way, won Best Youth Startup at GITEX Future Stars on Day 4 of GITEX Technology Week 2017.

"It's amazing to win this award, we didn't expect it, we only came here to network and meet new investors and customers in the education space," says Ibrahim Ezzeddine, co-founder and CEO, Cherpa, who adds that during GITEX they have already been approached by several schools interested in their innovative ways of teaching robotics.

"We've been approached by many schools and education institutions that are interested in adding robotics to their curriculums because of the way our platform has sparked renewed interest in it. So GITEX has given us the opportunity to start some really good relationships with our customer base," he says.

The Cherpa platform guides students with a virtual assistant that teaches them step-by-step how to build a circuit and connect and code it. At the end, there's a mission that needs to be solved for students to get to the next level and this will depend on which field the student has selected as their interest.

"So it could be astronomy, agriculture, medicine and so on. The entire platform changes to match these themes," explains Ezzeddine. "So for example a student could be building a joystick that controls a rover on Mars, so we show the student the extraordinary circumstances where a simple circuit could be used."

Cherpa uses hardware that is already available on the market, with its systems primarily software based, making the platform accessible to all schools.
