From its stand in Hall 6 of GITEX Technology Week, SAP is promoting a demo of its Live Airports concept. Combining technologies such as Internet-of-Things (IoT), blockchain, Big Data analytics, and machine learning, the solution gives airport operators the tools to manage daily operations, while also improving key points along the passenger experience.

This includes navigating security checkpoints more efficiently, personalising engagement with the airport's retail stores, and even delivering a smooth exit for passengers from the airport with their luggage in hand.

Gergi Abboud, managing director, Gulf, NAL and Pakistan, says: "With Live Airports, we make sure that the customer experience through an airport is seamless. Security is done flawlessly, while also being a less painful experience to the customer with fewer delays. [We also focused] on better shopping experience, which specifically in this part of the world is a big revenue generator for airports."

The managing directors add that the solution also incorporates predictive maintenance processes that evaluate plane status with real-time analytics. This way maintenance crews can acquire spare parts in advance of the plane's arrival, turning it quickly again for departure.

"You minimise downtime and make sure flights are on time, as well as having this process done with less human error and with more efficiency," adds Abboud.
