Smart, solar-powered palm trees are popping up across Dubai beaches offering free WiFi to tourists and residents.

The palm trees also act as self-sustainable recharge stations and information points by sourcing its energy from the solar panels above the tree leaves.

The smart tree has six main functions:

- WiFi hotspot which of course keeps users connected.

- Each tree sports a 360-degree infrared CCTV camera for added security and an emergency button.

- The solar panels which absorb energy to ensure the tree is autonomous.

- Dubai specific Information is provided through a website and mobile apps.

-  The digital outdoor screen offers public messages, government notices and commercial advertisements.

- The relax points and battery recharge stations are able to charge devices 2.5 times faster than regular stations.

The smart palm tree is also fully functional during the night as the sustainable technology powers green light-emitting LEDs.
