Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has extended the services of the Nol card to over 1,000 retail stores in the emirate.

The expanded services relies on a local payment platform operated by Mercury Payments Services LLC of the Network International.

Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of RTA's Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, said: "The service is now available in more than 1,000 retail outlets across Dubai.

"Users of Nol card in Dubai are now able to make quick and easy payments for purchases using their existing cards at POS terminals located at leading retailers across Dubai, with a simple tap of the card on the terminal similar to how they access the transit system."

Towards the end of the year, the RTA aims to expand the payment system to be available in 5,000 retailers.

The initiative is to spearhead Dubai into becoming the world's smartest city, making the lives of residents hassle-free with the use of technology.

The Nol card was initially the only payment method for the metro, tram and buses, this has now expanded to Dubai's public parks, as well as zoom convenience stores.
