Last month Samsung confirmed that the release of its Galaxy Note 8 smartphone will be released this year, however a Korean publication has revealed a specific date.

The Bell has reported that Samsung will announce its next flagship device on 23 August, and another Korean source, The Investor, also cited August but it did not provide a date.

As always rumours have emerged that the upcoming device will feature a dual-camera and a 6.2-inch edge-to-edge screen, this however is not much different to the Galaxy S8 series.

Samsung usually announces the Galaxy Notes devices at consumer electronics show IFA, which is held 1 September, so it may be that the Galaxy Note 8 is announced a few days before.

Apple typically makes its major announcement in September and this year it plans to unveil the iPhone 8, however Samsung's early release may give the South Korean tech giant a head start in the competition race.
