In the coming months Facebook users will begin to see brand advertisements within the social media platform's Messenger service.

Facebook is enabling businesses to drive their growth through targeted advertising on Messenger, not only will this update monetise the tool but it will help Facebook users discover new brands and businesses.

The Messenger ads will be a single ad placement in the home tab on the mobile app. When a user selects the ad they will be sent to the destination chosen by the creator or experience a messenger service where users can have a conversation.

Furthermore, Messenger ads will be available in Ads Manager and Power Editor to a subset of advertisers, and over the course of the month will roll out to all advertisers globally.

Later this month Facebook will also begin to roll out ads to a small percent of consumers globally, which will increase slowly over time, pending results from the beta expansion.

Facebook initially trialled the features in test groups in Thailand and Australia, and now plans to extend this globally. Facebook users will however be given the choice to hide and report certain ads.
