Microsoft targets hardcore gamers with Xbox One X The console is smaller and sleeker, with Microsoft calling it the ‘smallest Xbox ever'.

Microsoft has unveiled its newest games console, named the Xbox One X, the company promises a more powerful version of its predecessor.

The console was previously known as Project Scorpio, however Microsoft announced the new name as well as specifications at a press event ahead of popular gaming conference E3.

The Xbox One X is expected to be released 7 November and will cost $499.

The console is smaller and sleeker, with Microsoft calling it the ‘smallest Xbox ever' however the design looks similar to the Xbox One S model. It also features six teraflops of graphical power running at 1172 Mhz, 12GB of GDDR5 memory and a 2.3 Ghz custom central processing unit. These specifications means the console more powerful than the Xbox One S, as well as the PlayStation 4 Pro.

It also features Ultra HD Blu-ray drive for 4K video streaming and entertainment and 1TB of storage.

Furthermore, all Xbox One accessories are compatible with the new console, as well as Xbox One games. The new console promises a richer viewing experience and announced 22 ‘console launch exclusives', including several gaming titles, such as Gears of War 4, Resident Evil 7 and Rocket League will be upgraded to take advantage of the extra power.
