Apple shares secret screen machine, meaning cheaper repairs The machines, which were once a closely guarded secret, are called ‘Horizon Machines'

A cracked iPhone screen is increasingly common and experienced more times than one would hope, plus it can be very expensive to repair. However Apple is in the midst of changing this.

The iPhone giant is planning to sell 400 of its screen repair machines to third-party authorised service providers in 25 countries.

The machines, which were once a closely guarded secret, are called ‘Horizon Machines', which are "grey metal boxes the size of a microwave with a swing-out windowed door" according to a report by Reuters. With these machines, a cracked screen can take between 10 and 12 minutes to repair.

Apple will first rollout 200 machines and by the end of 2017 this will expand to other locations.

The move is to ultimately eliminate the waiting time for fixing cracked screens, as well as improve the overall service and the cost.
