Honeywell, a Fortune 100 software-industrial company, recently honoured four UAE-based teachers at a special Flight Suit Ceremony at ThinkScience Connect 2017.

Devised by Honeywell and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) in 2004, the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy (HESA) scholarship program is aimed at inspiring middle school math and science teachers to become more effective educators in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Over a five-day period, selected educators participate in an all-expenses paid training seminar that equips teachers with new ideas and learning techniques that will in turn help develop the next-generation of scientists in the UAE.

Recognised at a ceremony in  the UAE were educators Buthaina Abandah from Applied Technology High School, Abu Dhabi; Lara Chouman from Al Ittihad Private School in Dubai; Ghaleb Wahbi from Al Khaleej National School in Dubai; and Siji Sudhakaran from the Abu Dhabi Indian School Branch 1 in Al Wathba.

The ceremony itself was attended by Don Thomas, NASA astronaut (retired), who also recognised the teachers for their efforts and participation. Following this, the UAE-based educators will join hundreds more at the upcoming HESA program that will be held at USSRC in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, in June 2017.

Since its inception back in 2004, Honeywell has reportedly influenced more than three million students and supported 2,776 math and science HESA alumni from 56 countries.
