Initiative backer, China National Development and Reform Commission met with Alibaba Cloud and Yvolv
Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing arm of Alibaba Group, together with Yvolv, met a visiting delegation from the China National Development and Reform Commission in Dubai on 13 January 2017.
Yvolv is a technology JV between Alibaba Cloud and Meraas, which provides Alibaba Cloud solutions from its Dubai based data centre as well as digital transformation and managed services.
“Alibaba Cloud has made remarkable contributions to China’s technology and globalization. We look forward to seeing more synergies in China’s ‘One-belt, One Road’ development leveraged by Alibaba Cloud’s presence in the Middle East, as well as greater commercial cooperation and advanced technology exchange between China and UAE.” said Mr. Puming Li, general secretary of the National Development and Reform Commission of China at the meeting.
The “One Belt, One Road” initiative is a plan jointly released by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce of China. One Belt, One Road seeks to enhance regional connectivity across Central Asia, West Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
“Alibaba Cloud’s recent launch of the Dubai data centre has demonstrated our ongoing commitment to The Middle East, which is also a major area covered by China's 'One Belt, One Road' initiative. As a global leader in cloud computing and big data, we aim to accelerate the digital transformation of the Middle East by harnessing innovations in the region with our cutting edge technologies and IT infrastructure”, said Jiong Sun, vice president of Alibaba Group and Chairman of Yvolv.
In November 2016, Alibaba Cloud launched a new data centre in Dubai operated by Yvolv.
“Through-out the establishment and commencement of operations of Yvolv, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to the objectives outlined in both China’s ‘One Belt One Road’ and the Dubai Smart City Initiative within UAE Vision 2021”, said Fahad Al Hajeri, chief executive officer of Yvolv.
