UAE-based Digi Robotics is showcasing its virtual reality simulator at GITEX Technology Week. The machines uses a combination of virtual reality, robotic motion, and 3D sound to create an immersive experiences for users.
Explaining how the company’s VR simulators differ from other models in the market, Digi Robotics software designer Tarik Erol James Awad says: “This stands out compared to other VR experiences I think because the user is actually in control of what’s happening in their environment. In other things that you see commercially, it tends to be a pre-programmed experience. All the movement you experience, everything is pre-programmed, so it’s all linear, whereas this is dynamic in the sense that the user can do whatever they want – they can fly in any direction, crash into anything ... so it gives us a lot of freedom working this way.
“It’s built using a game engine so I have complete freedom to build whatever environment I want. In this case it’s an aviation simulation with an F16. You launch off an aircraft carrier and you have a mountain around you and reflective water below you.”
Awad believes the VR simulator would be well suited for entertainment purposes in malls and theme parks.
