A new innovation initiative has been announced for government and businesses in the UAE, to focus on collaboration to develop new ideas.

The Innovation Live! initiative, launched by business data company MEED, will include working groups for different vertical sectors and an inaugural summit, to be held during UAE Innovation Week.

The initiative will concentrate on government and business innovation ideologies and developing ideas in sustainable energy, smart cities, education, healthcare, transport and industrial diversification sectors.

The summit event will bring together the various focus groups in a series of ‘Watercooler Challenges', that will brainstorm ideas around seven core areas of sustainable energy, smart cities, healthcare, transportation, education, industrial diversification and start-ups.

The focus groups will also create a white paper, which will be presented to Dubai government, which aims to identify the barriers to innovation and development plans for each sector. An advisory board of 34 personnel from government and private sector will oversee the program.

Richard Breeden, chief executive officer at MEED commented: "Meeting the needs of a rapidly-growing market in a low oil-price era requires policymakers and companies to embrace new thinking, dynamic collaborations and the latest disruptions tech to make the Middle East a better place to live and work.

"MEED created this initiative along with the Advisory Board to support the government's mission in innovation. Our expertise across multiple business sectors places us in a unique position to engage stakeholders in the government and private sectors in identifying and solving the key pain points and opportunities in a rapidly advancing field." he continued.

The Innovation Live! Summit is expected to attract over 600 attendees, and will include keynote addresses and panel discussions, and a Government to Business (G2B) and Business to Business (B2B) Innovation Experience Zone. The event will cover innovation topics including design thinking, digital innovation, collaboration and co-creation, futuristic technologies, sustainability and leadership.

The event is supported by a number of organisations including Masdar Institute, Smart Dubai, Honeywell, Federal Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DAFZA, Hitachi, and Current by GE.
