Commvault, a provider of enterprise backup, recovery, archive and cloud solutions, has announced support for Red Hat's Kernel-based virtual machine powered virtualisation platform, Red Hat Virtualisation 4.

Through this integration, customers can implement a unified data protection strategy for workloads running on Red Hat Virtualisation 4 for a cloud-centric environment with greater virtual server data protection and file level restorability from Commvault's next generation software.

Red Hat Virtualisation 4, the newest release from Red Hat, a provider of open source solutions, helps address the increasing costs and complexities of proprietary virtualisation solutions by providing a fully-open, high-performance, more secure and centralised management platform for both Linux- and Windows-based workloads.

Brian Allison, vice president, Worldwide Alliances, Commvault, said: "Modern enterprises today are embracing open source virtualisation strategies that give their teams the upper hand in workload customisation and freedom while maximising their existing hardware investments to run workloads more efficiently,"

Allison said through Commvault's support for Red Hat Virtualisation 4, the company is expanding its partnership with an industry leader in open source solutions to give organisations a more efficient and effective infrastructure by providing greater virtual server data protection and file level restorability from Commvault's award-winning software.

"We are thrilled to be launching Red Hat Virtualisation 4 with greater virtual data protection and file level restorability from Commvault," said Scott Herold, product manager, Virtualisation Business at Red Hat Inc. "Through our integration with Commvault, customers can adopt virtual workload protection strategies that give them flexibility and scalability to be more fluid in today's highly disrupted, fast-paced global business environment."

Commvault's support of Red Hat Virtualisation includes features and benefits such as integration with the Red Hat Virtualisation Manager and the use of native APIs to perform all necessary functions, the ability to perform complete VM image backups without disruption of the running workloads, and policy driven protection operations.
