HPE President and CEO Meg Whitman has attacked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, describing him as

In an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday, Whitman said that Trump was "a dishonest demagogue," and announced that she would donate "substantial" funds and raise funding for his Democrat rival, Hilary Clinton.

Whitman was previously a Republican candidate for governor of California and an active party member and campaigner.

In a follow up post on Facebook Whitman said: "To vote Republican out of party loyalty alone would be to endorse a candidacy that I believe has exploited anger, grievance, xenophobia and racial division."

She has also privately compared Trump to Hitler and Mussolini.

Whitman is not the only HP boss with political ambitions. Former CEO Carly Fiorina was a major candidate in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, quitting the race in February.

Fiorina has attacked Trump for misogynist comments, but later said would back him as nominee.
