Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the Ideal Home initiative which aims to raise awareness for an ideal home environment.

The initiative will recognise households which do the most to achieve the highest standards of public health and safety, environmental protection, and general ideal home environment within the community.

It seeks to unify all relevant initiatives by Dubai government departments to consolidate a culture that conserves resources, and complies with safety and security guidelines and the relevant laws and other factor that build an ideal community.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said: "This initiative encourages Dubai families to compete positively in applying the standards set by Dubai government, proceeding from our efforts to support the Smart Dubai initiative, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world."

"The Ideal Home initiative works to instil a culture of sustainable use amongst families, while motivating others to adhere to best practices. The initiative also encourages other families to participate, by working to create the most environmentally-friendly home environment. This will help DEWA to study how people are trying to save electricity and water in their homes and workplaces to achieve better standards of living, happiness and greater resources sustainability, for generations to come," added Al Tayer.

DEWA will focus on a number of factors to determine the winner of the competition. These include the individual use of electricity and water and family use based on monthly bills, efforts made to set air conditioning to 24 degrees Celsius, the use of solar energy in houses, the use of modern economical irrigation techniques, water tank cleanliness, the use of energy-saving light bulbs and environmentally-friendly appliances, and the family's awareness of the best ways to save electricity and water.

The initiative is in cooperation with Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), and the Community Development Authority in Dubai (CDA), Dubai Smart Government, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
