Cisco set to accelerate digitisation of Saudi Arabia
As part of the partnership, Cisco is tasked in supporting Saudi Arabia’s efforts to create a digital economy.
Cisco has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment. The MoU will serve as part of a partnership framework aimed at supporting Saudi Arabia's efforts towards digital transformation.
As per the agreement, Cisco and Saudi Arabia will identify a number of collaborative approaches to realising a digital economy. This will include developing national IT infrastructure, accelerating businesses, improving research and education, as well as encouraging startups.
The signing ceremony, which was held in California, USA, was attended by Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Cisco Executive Chairman John Chambers, Cisco Chief Executive Officer Chuck Robbins and Cisco Saudi Arabia Managing Director Abdullah Al-Swaha.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, Minister of Commerce and Investment for Saudi Arabia, said "This partnership reflects the Saudi government's priority focus on embracing digital transformation and capturing the many opportunities presented by country digitisation."
"Developing a vibrant digital economy is a key pillar of our economic diversification plan and collaborating with global technology leaders is essential to bring expertise and know-how to our program of development."
As part of the collaboration, Cisco will share its expertise and experience in smart transformation and digital government. The technology company will also lead role in promoting education and the development of digital skills.
