Today, Instagram reached its 500 million monthly users and to mark the occasion, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a picture of himself, but perhaps revealed more than he wanted to.

It came to the attention of Chris Olson, who pointed out on Twitter, that Zuckerberg's MacBook Pro appeared to have tape covering both the webcam and mic jack. Though some suggested it was not Zuckerberg's desk, Gizmodo pointed out that the desk resembled the same given shown in a Facebook Live tour last year.

You would be forgiven for suggesting Zuckerberg is paranoid, however earlier this year FBI director James Comey said he highly recommends it. "I put a piece of tape over the camera because I saw somebody smarter than I am had a piece of tape over their camera," he said.

The idea of a cybercriminal hacking into your webcam may not be as common as a hacker trying to hack in to Zuckerberg's. However the with the Internet of Things market booming and with many devices embedded with microphones and cameras, it is highly hackers will exploit these features.

Would you cover your webcam with tape?
