Jordan Customs Department has deployed a new Cisco Application-Centric Infrastructure (ACI) project, which provides a network platform to connect operations and allow the roll out of new applications.

The ACI, which was deployed in partnership with Cisco Gold partner STS, gives Jordan customs a comprehensive Software Defined Networking (SDN) which will enable it deliver more responsive services and applications to its operations across the country.

Dr Waddah Al-Hmooud, director general of Jordan Customs said that the new network will underpin Jordan Customs' strategy for 2016-2018, and will help to reduce the cost and management of the network while increasing agility. Al-Hmooud also praised the IT team of Jordan Customs and STS for their high levels of technical ability and competency.

The project was completed in two months, and is the first Cisco ACI roll out in Jordan.

Husam Katkhoda, chief operating officer of STS said: "We are delighted to announce the completion of an unprecedented project of Cisco ACI solution by STS to Jordan Customs. This step is a major leap to operational excellence supported by state-of-the art technologies which facilitate the management and administration of existing IT. The Jordan Customs project is a continuation of our pioneering service and strengthens our commitment to serve the market as new innovative solutions are developed by world IT giants."

Cisco ACI is a comprehensive Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution, which enables organisations to accelerate application deployment and delivery, dramatically reducing IT costs through policy-enabled workflow automation. Cisco ACI integrates physical and virtual environments under one policy model for network, storage, servers, services and security. Cisco ACI is built on various Cisco products and technologies.

Hani Raad, general manager of Cisco Iraq and Levant, commented: "We are proud of our partnership with STS and Jordan Customs Department in the first of its kind project, based on Cisco ACI solution, in Jordan. This project puts Jordan ahead in organising and managing the infrastructure of Information Technology and we shall delve deeper into extracting the largest benefits from Cisco innovative solutions for Jordanian institutions in the near future."
