Qatar's Hamad International Airport (HIA) has announced its plans to introduce Google's 360-degree street view imagery of the airport as part of its digital strategy.

The launch means that anyone with an Internet connection can explore the airport's facilities within its 600,000 square metre terminal, including Qatar Duty Free, the iconic Lamp Bear and other art installations in the airport.

Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Meer, chief operating officer at HIA said: "With the launch of Google's Street View in our airport, our customers from all over the world will get the unique opportunity to experience our airport's award winning facilities, airport architecture and design quality.

"We at HIA are proud to be the first airport in the Middle East to launch the 360 degree Street View with Google. We are also among a select few airports in the world to have launched this feature."

Ulf Spitzer, global lead for the Google Street View program, stated: "The Google Street View team continues to go to amazing places around the world because we know that our users love to see them and experience these locations online. From Urs Fischer's teddy lamp bear sculpture to the Dreamliners that line the runway, millions around the world will now be able to inspect the Hamad International Airport, which they may be travelling to or through soon."

Google also worked closely with officials at Hamad International Airport who guided the Street View team in their journey documenting the terminal building.

Street View is a feature of Google Maps that enables users to explore places around the world, such as landmarks, natural wonders and cultural and historical sites.
