Virgin Mobile has appointed Fouad Halawi as its new CEO to lead the company into its next phase of development in Saudi Arabia.

Halawi brings with him over 15 years of executive management experience in the telecommunications industry in Europe, Australia and the US, and joins from Lycamobile Australia where he was group managing director.

Virgin Mobile recently announced serving over one million subscribers in Saudi Arabia, which was achieved within a year of commercial launch of the operations in October 2014.

Virgin Mobile Middle East & Africa said last year it has ambitious plans to further strengthen its position in the region by launching in more countries.

It is targeting a regional customer base of over 10 million subscribers within 5 years with Saudi Arabia forecast to be the biggest market.

"Virgin Mobile is a fantastic brand and I was delighted to be chosen to head up the business in Saudi Arabia. It is a dynamic telecoms market with excellent potential for growth", said Halawi.

"I am looking forward to working with the team to execute our growth plan for year two. Our mandate is to make mobile better for our members across the kingdom", he added.

Halawi replaces former CEO Karim Benkirane.
