What is your current role in the ICT industry in the Middle East and what are your responsibilities?

I am the VP, Business Strategy at StarLink, the largest and fastest growing “True” Value-added Distributor across the META region. As a part of the Senior Management team at StarLink, my role entails driving strategic objectives towards achievement of the company’s vision across all facets of the business. My primary focus is on portfolio evolution, geographical expansion, strategic partnerships and strategic customers.

What is the best thing about your job?

There isn’t just one best thing about my job, because I am truly passionate about what I do. But if I have to showcase just one thing about the job, I would say it is the people I work with. I feel like I learn something new every day.

How innovative do you think the network industry in the Middle East is and how can it improve?

I think the network industry in the Middle East is extremely innovative, in that it is at the forefront of technology adoption. The irony behind this is that the majority of customers are steered towards making decisions based on price and information portrayed in technology research reports, versus looking at gaps and bridging them with the right next-generation solutions that address today’s challenges.

What are the upcoming trends or products in your sector?

The top upcoming trends that we anticipate are: Behavioural analytics; Internet-of-Things (IoT); Cloud & virtualisation; mobile; and incident response.

Does your company utilise virtualisation or cloud computing and if so what products/ implementations do you have?

Absolutely. Every product in our portfolio is deployed in our lab which is built using a fully virtualised environment. For demo purposes, all solutions are either replicated in virtual machines on the laptops of Sales Engineers, or are available as cloud-based trials. Furthermore, internally, our ERP, NetSuite, is also in the cloud, as well as, our email and collaboration tools, with Microsoft Office 365.

What are your out-of-office hobbies?

Travelling, watching movies, savouring good food, golf and swimming.
