IDC confirms dates for Middle East CIO Summit 2016 Lalchandani: Among the most influential boardroom voices are those of the CFO and CMO

IDC has announced dates for the latest installment of its annual Middle East CIO Summit, which will be held at Abu Dhabi's Jumeirah Etihad Towers from February 17 to 18 under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the UAE's Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development.

In a new twist for the annual event, the 2016 edition will not only welcome over 150 of the Middle East's leading CIOs, but also more than 50 of the region's most influential finance and marketing leaders.

IDC said that this new development reflects the shifting dynamics that are shaping technology investments around the world, with a recent global IDC study showing that around 45% of technology spending undertaken by organisations is now drawn from budgets outside of the IT department. Digital transformation efforts sit at the heart of these investment decisions, and line-of-business (LoB) executives clearly now have a critical role to play alongside the CIO in facilitating this journey, IDC said.

"The CIO remains the prime mover and shaker when it comes to making technology decisions, but it is becoming increasingly difficult for vendors to ignore the rise of LoB influence," said Jyoti Lalchandani, vice president and regional managing director at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey.

"And among the most influential boardroom voices are those of the CFO and CMO, particularly in relation to critical business disruptors such as cloud, mobility, social, and big data analytics."

At this year's summit, IDC will host two dedicated CMO- and CFO-focused sessions on the sidelines of the main event, where a host of industry experts will share their insights into the major issues set to shape the Middle East ICT market over the coming 12 months.

Speakers will include Gerry Pennell, who - as CIO of the London Olympic Organising Committee - facilitated the most technologically connected Olympic Games ever and delivered the most viewed sports website in the world. There will also be the opportunity to network with the whole suite of C-level attendees over a round of golf at Abu Dhabi's world-renowned Yas Links course.

IDC added that it is delighted to welcome the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority as the official Destination and Cultural Partner for the Middle East CIO Summit 2016. They will be joined by DarkMatter, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Intel as Summit Partners, EMC as CFO Partner, Sanovi and Brocade as Gold Partners, MISYS and Automic as Banking and Finance Vertical Partners, OpenText and Fortinet as Government Vertical Partners, Tata Communications and iDashboards as Lunch Partners, and AGC as Dinner Partner.

More information on the summit can be found on its website.
