MITEF Arab Startup Competition returns Zain believes in championing the generation of new ideas, says Gegenheimer.

The MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition launched yesterday, to promote entrepreneurship and startups.

The competition, which is in its ninth year, will run until the final in April, and is open to teams and individuals, with total prize money of over $150,000 plus other benefits including training, mentorship, coaching, media exposure, and networking opportunities.

The competition is being held in partnership with Zain Group and Community Jameel International, the CSR arm of Abdul Latif Jameel.

The competition includes three different tracks for Ideas, Startups, and Social Entrepreneurship. Registration is now open, and seventy semi-finalist teams will be announced on 1st February, 2016. The semi-finalists will be invited to attend pre-bootcamp activities scheduled to take place in February and March, 2016 in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and the UAE.

The competition will culminate in a five-day event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from April 11 - 15th, 2016, with the announcement of the competition winners scheduled to take place during the final award ceremony on April 14th, 2016, with a an one-day MIT Technology Review Pan Arab conference being held on April 15th, 2016.
