Initial, grey-market pricing in the UAE for Apple's iPhone 6S handsets will likely range from AED3,300 to AED5,700, according to a wholesale price list seen by ITP.net.

The figures were shared with ITP.net by online marketplace JadoPado, which, according to an announcement on its website, will stock the handsets soon. The figures show wholesale prices starting from AED3,300 for a grey or silver 16GB iPhone 6S and reaching AED5,700 for a rose gold 128GB iPhone 6S Plus.

While the figures are not retail prices, Omar Kassim, CEO of JadoPado, told this website he expects consumer pricing to be “there or there abouts, to start” when orders begin, for deliveries starting on Saturday 26 September .

When the Apple Watch became available on JadoPado in April this year, through third parties selling on the e-retail platform, mark-ups on the wrist-wear hit mark-ups of up to 258%, although prices subsequently normalised.

Although no information yet exists on precise UAE retail pricing for the handsets, ITP.net estimates the wholesale prices already represent an average mark-up of 10% on retail prices in the US, highlighting the continued trend of inflated early-adopter pricing on Apple products for UAE consumers.

On JadoPado, the 6S handsets will be sold exclusively by third-party sellers and not by JadoPado Direct, as the company continues to scale back its direct-selling business and repositions itself as a marketplace.

"We don't provide any specific advice to sellers with regard to price," said Kassim in an email to ITP.net. "The competitive nature of the platform tends to drive sellers to push each other hard on pricing, giving consumers a better deal."
