Remember when a job in tech was a job for life? No, we don’t either. ICT giants have a habit of trimming the fat for a variety of reasons: recession, the unwise acquisition, recession, unforeseen industry changes, recession… Many companies conduct their employee-jettisoning processes in private, so wildly inaccurate reports do surface. For example, we are somewhat confident this January’s reports of IBM shedding 110,000 workers are probably exaggerated. What follows is a sample of widely reported and, as yet (as far as we can tell), not convincingly discredited figures.
