Apple sends out Sep. 9 event invites, new iPhones expected Requests to Siri for hints simply return light-hearted jokes

Apple has sent out invites to what the industry assumes will be the unveiling of the next iPhone. The event will take place on September 9 at a large auditorium in San Francisco.

As is usual for Apple, the invite contains a cryptic message - "Hey Siri, give us a hint." This has led iOS users around the world to prompt the Siri digital assistant for hints around the event, though the requests simply return light-hearted jokes.

The new iPhone is expected to be the 6S - assuming Apple keeps with its tradition of refreshing the device's outer shell every two years, but refreshing the innards every year. As a result, the iPhone 6S is expected to look the same as the current iPhone 6 line-up, though underneath industry insiders predict a bevy of updates.

Apple's iPhone 6S: The rumours so far

For example, Apple is expected to unveil the A9 processor for the iPhone 6S - with improvements to power and efficiency. The next version of iOS, version 9, is also expected to be heavily featured at the event, following months of developer testing. Other rumours suggest that the new 6S will have up to 2GB of RAM on-board.

One of the biggest pieces of news will revolve around the camera, pundits predict. There are rumours that the iPhone 6S will feature a new 8MP iSight camera that is capable of shooting 4K video. What's more, Apple is rumoured to have made big strides with the lens itself, though little else is known about what that will mean for iPhonographers.

It's also widely expected that Apple will bring Force Touch to the iPhone with the release of the 6S. Already available on the Apple Watch and Cupertino's new MacBook computers, the function allows the device to react differently depending on how hard a user is pressing on the screen.

What's more, there's also a rumour that Apple will release the iPhone 6C, which could contain the iPhone 6's innards, but be available with a 4-inch screen, like the iPhone 5 and 5S.
