Mozilla has blocked Adobe Flash on all versions of its Firefox web browser, citing security concerns.

The open source organisation said that Flash was blocked because of flaws in the application that were actively being exploited by online criminals. A number of bugs in Flash were listed in detail in documents that were stolen from the security company Hacking Team.

In an online statement, Mozilla said it would continue to block Flash in Firefox until "Adobe releases an updated version to address known critical security issues".

Flash is widely used to show interactive content on web pages, but has been exploited by hackers in the past. The latest vulnerabilities to the software have been added to exploit kits, to allow them to be targeted by cyber criminals.
