The Apple Watch needs no introduction. It's been more than five years since the first iPad was announced, and since then, we've only seen iterative new products from Cupertino every year - 2015 marks Apple's first foray into a new product category in what is an age in technology terms. It is, then, rather a big deal.
But it's also controversial; whereas there were clear use cases for the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad - though, admittedly, many failed to grasp the concept of the latter when it was launched - the Watch's function is less clear-cut. Sure, it looks great compared to the other smartwatches on the market today, but consumers still need to be convinced that they need a smartwatch at all. And given that the Apple Watch does so much, there's been plenty of confusion over the product's ‘killer application'.
The Apple Watch isn't available through official channels in the UAE, but since Apple made the product available to buy in-store (rather than through online pre-order) in other regions last month, grey market prices have cooled off. Indeed, you can get a grey-market Apple Watch Sport here for less than it costs to buy one from the Apple Store in the UK. So, with that in mind, I decided now was as good a time as any to take the plunge, and I ordered myself a 42mm Apple Watch Sport with white band.
A week in, I'm convinced that it was a good purchase, but I still struggle to explain to people why and how it benefits me. Certainly, it would be ridiculous to say that you need an Apple Watch, but in this review, I'll try to take you through some of the reasons why you might want one. This isn't a sales pitch, however - I'll say straight from the off that the Apple Watch isn't for everyone. However, if you're in the market for a smartwatch - or even a decent watch, period - it's certainly worth a look-in.
