Apple ducks confirmation on UAE store launch
Cupertino neither confirms nor denies rumours of summer opening
Apple was evasive today on reports that its hotly anticipated UAE store would open in August 2015.
Apple fan sites Apple Insider, Cult of Mac and 9 to 5 Mac all picked up UAE daily Khaleej Times' report that the world's largest Apple Store would open in August 2015 in Mall of the Emirates' Fashion District. Reports also indicated that Apple would open a second store in Abu Dhabi's newly opened Yas Mall.
But Khaleej Times cited unnamed sources. Mall of the Emirates management would not confirm the opening date and Apple did not reply.
When contacted by ITP.net for comment on the reports, Apple merely reaffirmed its commitment to the UAE market: "The United Arab Emirates is an important country for Apple. We launched the Apple Online Store, UAE in 2011 and it's one of our fastest growing markets around the world. We look forward to opening a physical store in the region and sharing Apple's unique shopping experience and services that have been incredibly popular around the world in the near future."
Apple fans have eagerly awaited news on a brick-and-mortar Apple Store. Earlier this month ITP.net reported on the escalating grey market in Apple goods as UAE-based players took advantage of the delays in Apple Watch shipments to charge inflated prices for the wearable device. While UAE Apple resellers distanced themselves from the activity, some online marketplaces insisted the arrival of the Apple Store would not diminish their business in Apple products.
