Samsung Electronics' Q1 estimates described a three-month period that was the company's most profitable in three quarters, Reuters reported.

Operating profit is estimated to be KRW5.9trn ($5.44bn), beating analysts' average estimate of KRW5.3trn.

Samsung will launch its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones this month. Both handsets use more components from Samsung's own semiconductor business than ever before, as the vendor attempts to cut costs in the face of stiff competition from Apple in the premium handset business.

Analysts expect strong sales from both Galaxy S6 devices, with Counterpoint projecting 50m units sold by the end of 2015.
