ManageEngine moves to curb shadow IT Kumar: The overall shift in IT demands intelligent monitoring and reporting of security events.

Real-time IT management company ManageEngine this week announced cloud control capabilities for Firewall Analyzer, its security log analysis and firewall device management software.

ManageEngine said security admins will now be able to identify so-called "shadow IT", unsanctioned software installed by users outside of IT policy frameworks. The cloud control capability includes new reports that allow monitoring beyond network app usage and bandwidth consumption, and to exercise control over shadow IT.

ManageEngine demonstrated the monitoring functions at the 7th e-Crime & Information Security Dubai summit on Wednesday, at the Conrad Dubai.

"When security monitoring expands up to the cloud, which has no clear boundary demarcation, Firewall Analyzer has to brace up to meet the challange" said Pravin Kumar, product manager for Firewall Analyzer, ManageEngine.

"The overall shift in IT demands intelligent monitoring and reporting of security events. We foresaw this and strengthened Firewall Analyzer with new dimension reports to monitor mobile and cloud apps, app categories, and app usage by users. With these reports, the security administrator can find out what is happening beyond the network [that] is still having an impact on the network."
