Some 40% of adult US iPhone owners are thinking about buying an Apple Watch, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Earlier this week Reuters reported that 13% of Americans who did not own an iPhone were considering buying one so they could buy an Apple Watch, which works best with Cupertino's smartphones.

The earlier report revealed that 69% of US citizens would not buy an Apple Watch, but also said that half of those polled were not aware of the forthcoming wrist-wear.

But Apple's main market for the Watch will be its existing customer base, who will have a range of devices from which to choose, from the relatively low-end $350 model to the $17,000 18-karat gold edition.
