China-based solutions provider Huawei announced today that it is preparing to showcase a number of its solutions tailored to the rail transport industry, at Middle East Rail 2015, which will be held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center on 17 and 18 March.

Huawei will demonstrate how its GSM-R, e-LTE (4G), transmission networking, IP networking and data centre solutions can be used by railway operators in the region.

"Through its tailored Rail technology and communications solutions, Huawei aims to place passengers at the heart of the region's railway transformation by emphasizing safety, comfort and reliability as critical components of railway infrastructure," the company said in a statement.

Some $200bn of investment is earmarked for the GCC Rail project, which is scheduled for completion by 2018. The project is aimed at connecting all six GCC nations.

"With the advent of the GCC Rail project, the strategic importance of the rail sector is rising in the Middle East," said Rabii Ouadi, head of business development, Transportation Solutions, Huawei Enterprise Middle East and North Africa.

"The challenges of running a large rail network are immense as operators strive to offer the best passenger experiences while ensuring safety and security. This year at Middle East Rail, Huawei looks forward to connecting with industry leaders and railway operators to highlight how our technology solutions can help shape the future of transport and develop a better connected railway in the region."
