Acer has launched a fresh line of mid-range Windows Phone handsets at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

While the handsets run Windows Phone 8, Acer has assured users that all four smartphones are capable of running Windows 10.

"As soon as [Microsoft] introduces [Windows 10] to the market, then on the same day your device can [migrate from] the Windows 8 OS to Windows 10," said Patrick Mulligan, general manager, Smartphones, Acer Middle East and Africa, in an interview with ITP.net last Thursday in Dubai.

Windows 10's release schedule is somewhat vague, but market speculation places the commercial launch of Microsoft's make-or-break OS sometime in the second half of this year.

"[These devices] well represent Acer's product strategy today and going forward," Mulligan said. "Their prices are in the range of AED299 to AED899. So we are neither at the very bottom of the market or at the very top of the market; we're focusing on the middle segment."

Among the new releases, is the Liquid M220, which has a 4-inch display with 233 pixels per inch, 512MB RAM, 8GB storage, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 processor, 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras.
