Samsung sees tenfold surge in UAE 4K TV sales in 2014
South Korean firm retains top spot in UAE market share with 46%
Samsung Gulf Electronics this week reported a "tenfold" increase in UAE sales of its ultra-high-definition (UHD) televisions in 2014, compared with 2013.
The firm believes the leap points to the country's "growing appetite" for 4K technology. The company's 2014 sales figures also reveal that Samsung achieved a market share of 46% in the UAE TV market during the fourth quarter of last year.
"Market dynamics played to our strengths in 2014, and these figures support that," said Vinod Nair, head of TV Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics.
"Consumers really began transitioning from Full HD to UHD last year... The Curved UHD TV, in particular, was the first to deliver cinema-style viewing to consumers in their very own homes, and consumers have really embraced our people-inspired design."
Sales of UHD TVs now comprise almost a quarter of Samsung's overall business, according to company spokespeople, and that number is expected to increase in 2015 with the arrival of the next generation of UHD TVs.
