Jumbo Electronics has selected Microsoft's Office 365 service to replace internal email and improve communications across the group.

The electronics retailer, part of Jumbo Group, has deployed Office 365 services to around 800 employees, including email, email storage and archiving, SharePoint enabled intranet and Lync based PC to PC communication.

According to the company, the service has reduced communication barriers across the organisation, enhanced information sharing among business units, and enabled knowledge transfer among employees and improved market agility.

Jumbo was previously using Exchange Server 2003, which went out of support in 2011. The company then decided to support the system internally, but this solution was not able to keep up with company growth, leading to lack of storage and archiving space for each employee, limiting them to use their e-mails very selectively. The Office 365 service allowed Jumbo to eliminate the need for an internal support person for email, and gives the company access to large storage backup and unlimited archiving at low costs.

"With the rapid increase in data growth and employee headcount, Jumbo Group was seeking a robust, scalable communication, collaboration and information management platform to improve its operations effectively. Microsoft Office 365 came in as the best recommendation after an in-depth analysis and comparison with other messaging platforms," said V Suresh, CIO, Jumbo Group.

"This collaboration with Microsoft will help us tackle data storage challenges and improve our ability to effectively communicate across the organisation with access to emails in the cloud. We can now better empower our employees with information anytime, anywhere across any platform to provide the best in class experience for our customers."

Ihsan Anabtawi, Microsoft Office Division business group lead at Microsoft Gulf said: "At Microsoft, we are obsessed with providing our customers with technology innovation that enables them to be more productive in a mobile-first, cloud-first world. The move to Office 365 will provide greater efficiency to Jumbo Electronics in managing cross-division processes, including data and analytics, as well as documentation management and reporting."
