'World's largest' Apple store to open in Dubai
Local newspaper says Apple stores will open in the region in February
The "world's largest" Apple retail store will open in Dubai early next year, 7DAYS has reported, citing a source close to the tech giant.
In August, ITP.net reported that the company had posted job vacancies online for positions in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and later a statement to ITP.net's sister site Arabian Business, confirmed the plans to open the store in the Middle East region.
"The United Arab Emirates is an important country for Apple. We launched the Apple Online Store, UAE in 2011 and it's one of our fastest growing markets around the world.
"We look forward to opening a physical store in the region, and sharing Apple's unique shopping experience and services that have been incredibly popular around the world, in the near future," the statement said.
A source, in contact with insiders at one of the iPhone maker's global offices, revealed to 7DAYS: "They will open at Mall of the Emirates in February 2015. Another store will open in Abu Dhabi as well."
The newspaper said that Cook was previously spotted at Dubai Mall, fuelling speculation the first store will open in the world's largest mall. But the source said that the first - and largest - outlet is due to open in the Al Barsha mall.
In January, Apple opened an office in Dubai's Emaar Square, likely to serve as its headquarters for the region.
The Cupertino company also opened a distribution facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone and is currently advertising multiple openings for 24 roles across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
