What is your current role in the ICT industry?

I am the CEO of Synechron, which commenced its Dubai operations in mid-2008 as a part of its strategic expansion plan that would enable us to offer our clients in this region technology and consulting services.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Over the last 13 years of Synechron’s existence, I have been thinking about this but haven’t been able to define the best thing about my job in quantifiable terms. I still remember the day when we — Synechron’s co-founders and I — quit our high-paying jobs and took the entrepreneurial plunge to start this journey. I think being an integral part in the making of the Synechron story is the best part of my job.

How innovative do you think the network industry in the Middle East is and how can it improve?

The industry has shown strong indications of stability and growth and I am astonished at the speed at which it has evolved. It’s an absolute delight to actually witness the transition. I think this shift in paradigm is due to a lot of innovative practices that corporations today are utilising. Furthermore, I believe that if organisations start encouraging innovation and invest significant time in providing path-breaking technology solutions, the industry would definitely benefit.

What are the upcoming trends or products in your sector?

I believe SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) to be the torchbearers to our future. The way data is generated, managed, processed, shared and dissected, will definitely create the next big impact to our industry. Key disruptors will also play a major role in the future.

Are you a BYOD user and what devices do you use?

Yes I am. I generally bring my smartphone and laptop. It makes it a lot easier for me to work as I am fairly comfortable and familiar with these devices. BYOD not only has a lot of business benefits but it also leads to happier and more satisfied employees.

What are your out-of-office hobbies?

I love watching Hindi movies and listening to good songs.  I like to play the guitar. I have two daughters, aged 11 and nine and I love to spend time with them. I also love architecture.

Favourite mobile OS?

I would be slightly inclined towards iOS.

Favourite gadget?

My smartphone.

Favourite musician?

I am a huge fan Atif Aslam while Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G. remains my all-time favourite.

Favourite book?

Hyperspace, a book by Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist.
