YouTube CEO says site will launch music service 'soon'
Susan Wojcicki said at the Recode mobile conference that her company is 'working on it.'
YouTube's CEO, Susan Wojcicki teased that the site's music subscription service will launch "soon", CNet reported.
Speaking at the Recode mobile conference, Wojcicki declined to say whether the service will be available this year, she simply said YouTube is "working on it" and it should arrive "soon."
"I think there's a lot of opportunity," she said. "It's amazing how much music we have. ... I remain optimistic that you can see it soon."
According to CNet, Google has been close to launching it several times, but the service has been hampered by reports of friction with independent music labels, as well as the departures of key executives.
Earlier this year, ITP.net reported that content from independent artists who opt not to sign up to the new offering would be blocked.
