Leviton stands on quality at GITEX
Cabling specialist urges delegates not to base hardware decisions solely on cost
At this year’s GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, cabling specialist Leviton is advising customers to base their hardware buying decisions on quality and service, rather than on price.
While acknowledging that business buying decisions often come down to price, the company’s Senior Technical Manager for Network Solutions, Asef Baddar, says that what is really important is the quality of the products, the service provided by the vendor, and the range of products on offer. This is especially true when it comes to data centre cabling, he says, as these deployments are supposed to last for years.
“This cabling, somebody is going to install it and not change after one year or five years — it’s going to be there for a long time,” he says. “So having the right investment in the right place is what it’s all about. Yes, price is important and it’s a priority, but I don’t want to think of price first; I want to think of service, quality and solutions, and then on price we can also be competitive.”
At its stand in Hall 1 this year, Leviton is showcasing a number of products. One of the biggest solutions it is touting is the company’s Intelligent Port Management System, dubbed Intact. According to Baddar, the solution is easy to install, and bring intelligence to the patch panel side of the infrastructure.
“It enables the customer, the IT manager, to monitor, to manage, to do work orders, to do reporting, to do capacity planning and so on. It features a lot of nice things that customers are now looking for,” he explains.
Leviton is also showcasing its High Density Frame product, which is aimed at enterprises operating within high-density environments, Baddar says.
